“Movember” help sought

This November the Lakeview Health Paramedics will participate in “Movember,” a month dedicated to raising awareness and money for men’s health.

The Lakeview team “Mo-Medics and Mo Friends” are looking for those willing to join in the challenge of raising over $15,000.

Men and women can participate on this team by registering at Movember.com, click “join a team” and type in the “Mo Medics and Mo Friends” team.

After registering join the team for “shave the date” on Nov. 1, 2013. On this date men will shave their faces clean in preparation for growing a mustache. While growing a mustache participants spread awareness for prostate canceer, testicular cancer, and men’s health in general.

Women can participate in this challenge by encouraging men to have routine health check-ups. Remember men, you can still be superman, even with a check up.

St. Croix Catholic School Open House

St. Croix Catholic School will be hosting an Open House on Sunday, October 27 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Parent representatives will be available to give guided tours in the school during this time. Special presentations will be led by the principal at 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. in the Middle School Commons. Many teachers and staff will be on hand to answer your questions. Visit our new STEM Lab. Afton girl’s night out Oct. 17
The Afton Area Business Association will host a “girls night out” 5-8 p.m. tomorrow in downtown Afton.

Highlights include outdoor live music, as well as specials on drink, food and lodging. A best “witch hat” contest is at 7 p.m. on the patio of Swirl Wine Bar, and outdoor vendors on the boulevard will feature fall fashions, mittens, hats, scarves and jewelry.

The first 30 ladies to arrive at Chelsea Rose Antiques at 5 p.m. will receive an official “Swag Bag,” and local merchants will offer “Swag Bag” gifts and discounts.

Bayport flushing hydrants this week

The Bayport Public Works Department is flushing fire hydrants this week. Work began Monday. Weather permitting, it will be completed in seven to 10 days. Residents may experience some water discoloration as a result of the flushing process. If you notice discolored water, let the water run until it clears up. If your problem persists, call Bayport City Hall, 651-275-4404.

Trick or Treat Trail
The Afton Area Business Association will host the third annual “Trick or Treat Trail” 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Kids are invited to follow St. Croix Trail through the historic town of Afton, MN from Sail Away Café to Selma’s Ice Cream Parlour, for a free Halloween event.

Children will visit 18 participating shops, businesses and restaurants to collect free treats and enjoy fall activities such as pumpkin decorating, Halloween crafts, a spooky art studio, ghostly games, free hot cocoa more.

New this year, Selma’s will give kids a chance to scream for ice cream by hosting a scream contest at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Children will show off their loudest shrieks and screeches for the chance to win free ice cream.

This non-scary event is best suited for children ages 10 and under. Costumes are encouraged.
