Lakeview Hospital is now among only 10 percent of hospitals nationwide to receive a Stage 6 designation from HIMSS Analytics.
Lakeview earned the rating after implementing a bar-coded system for administering medication.
The rating comes from the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, an eight-step scale that charts the path to a fully paperless system.
According to HIMSS Analytics, being a Stage 6 hospital means: patient information is readily available through an electronic health record system; department orders are expedited electronically; when looking at a patient’s chart, physicians receive alerts for important patient information, such as allergies and medication; and nurses are able to create charts electronically.
“We’re pleased that Lakeview, in conjunction with HealthPartners, offers a high level of electronic medical record technology and connectivity,” Lakeview President Curt Geissler said in a written statement. “This ensures that our patient information is always available to providers throughout our system of care whenever and wherever it is needed.”
