Two-vehicle wreck kills one

A Marine on St. Croix man was killed in a two-vehicle accident last Friday on Minnesota 95 in Scandia.

The Minnesota State Patrol identified the victim as 80-yaer-old Kenneth R. Ostlund. The driver of the second vehicle, identified as Forrest R. Burton, 72, of Chisago City, was not injured in the accident.

According to a State Patrol report, Burton was northbound on MN 95 when Ostlund apparently pulled his van into the path of Burton’s pickup at the intersection of MN 95 and 220th Street North.

The report said Burton’s vehicle “t-boned” Ostlund’s van, with the impact sending both vehicles into a nearby ditch and starting Ostlund’s vehicle on fire. Rescue workers were unable to extricate Ostland.

The accident occurred about 11:30 a.m. last Friday and closed a two-mile stretch of MN 95 between Minnesota 97 and 240th Street North.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and rescue workers from Marine on St. Croix and Scandia assisted at the scene.
