School and community events highlights of the week
There’s nothing quite like homecoming week for local schools and school and community events take center stage next week when the St. Croix Valley celebrates “Pony pride” with Stillwater Area High School.
Independent School District 834 student board members Nick Alm and Paige Heitpas gave a short presentation on homecoming week plans to the board Thursday night.
“As a student council, we really wanted to figure out ways to get everyone pumped for homecoming,” Alm said. “It’s been kind of stressful planning it all but our advisors have been great at helping us.”
The events include a partnership with local businesses to paint the town red, a new powderpuff football game between junior and senior girls, homecoming royalty election at Boutwells Landing, which Heitpas said has already gotten more than 120 votes, and a community-wide pre-game celebration at Pony Stadium before kickoff Oct. 4 against Roseville.
“I want to commend you for getting the whole community involved in this year’s homecoming,” said board member Tom Lehmann. “It’s great to have more events during the week than just the game.”
