Abby Lange – Girls cross country

Abby Lange colLed by returning state qualifier Abby Lange, the Stillwater girls’ cross country is not flashy, but has recorded consistent showings in each of its four races so far this fall.

Lange, a junior, has been Stillwater’s top finisher in each race this season, including a sixth-place finish in Saturday’s 27-team Milaca Mega Meet with a time of 14:47.3. She also placed seventh at the Rochester Mayo Invitational in 14:53.02 and a fourth-place finish at the Faribault Invite with a time of 15:24.9. Lange’s efforts up front have helped the Ponies to a sixth-place finish at Faribault and seventh-place showings at Rochester and Milaca.

The Ponies are set to compete at the Prior Lake Invitational today.

The Stillwater boys’ soccer team has been efficient while taking advantage of its modest scoring the past three games.

Alex Jurcoi has scored a goal in each of the last three games and the Ponies made all three stand up while recording consecutive 1-0 victories over Mounds View, Totino-Grace and East Ridge.

All three of Jurcoi’s recent game-winning goals were assisted by Nathan Purdie. Jurcoi’s first-half tally against No. 2 ranked East Ridge extended Stillwater’s lead in the Suburban East Conference and should pay off when it comes time to seed the Section 4AA tournament.

Stillwater (6-0-0 SEC, 9-2-1), ranked 10th in the state coaches poll, hosts Woodbury in a conference game tonight.
