OAK PARK HEIGHTS — With the regular season quickly winding down, the Stillwater girls’ tennis team continued its recent form while dispatching Woodbury 5-2 in Wednesday’s Suburban East Conference dual at Stillwater Area High School.
“It was another good conference opponent and, fortunately, another nice victory for the girls,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said.
The Ponies (6-2 SEC, 10-3) close out conference play at White Bear Lake today and seeding for the Section 4AA tournament will take place later in the evening.
The Ponies won three of four singles matches, including comfortable wins by Savannah Johnson 6-1, 6-1 and Aliza Deming 6-0, 6-1 at the first and second spots. Emma Germundson added a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Maura Stevenson at fourth singles.
Woodbury’s lone singles point came at the third position where Brooke Hays stopped Elizabeth Quinn 6-2, 6-1. The Royals also prevailed at first singles with Katie Kreibich and Taylor Monkman defeating Jenna Sherrick and Hannah Quinn 6-2, 6-3.
Stillwater’s Remi Larson and Shelby Anderson posted a 6-3, 6-2 win at second doubles while Emily Frenchik and Amanda Williams prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at third doubles.
n Hannah Glasrud won a 6-4 exhibition singles match on Wednesday for the Ponies, who also received doubles victories from Lexie Sherrick and Olivia Anderson (9-8) and Kelia Deming and Eliza Weisberg (6-3).
