Girls tennis: Stillwater blanks Raiders

 

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — A convincing performance in singles and doubles carried Stillwater to a 7-0 sweep against Cretin-Derham Hall in Tuesday’s Suburban East Conference girls’ tennis dual at Stillwater Area High School.

The Ponies (5-2 SEC, 9-3) lost just one set and Shelby Anderson quickly bounced back to defeat Sammy Baldwin 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 at third singles. Stillwater’s other three singles players each won in straight sets, led by Savannah Johnson with a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the first spot. Aliza Deming also made quick work of Celia Carlisano 6-1, 6-2 at second singles and Elizabeth Quinn lost just one game in her victory at the fourth spot.

Stillwater also cruised to straight-set victories in all three doubles matches.

“It was a great team effort,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “Hopefully we can keep it rolling with our last two conference matches coming up Wednesday and Thursday.”

n Also on Tuesday, the Ponies received exhibition singles victories from Hannah Glasrud and Olivia Anderson and doubles victories from Emily Frenchik-Clara Ilkka and Kelia Deming-Eliza Weisberg.

No. 2 — Remi Larson-Emma Germundson (St) def. Monica Whaley-Elizabeth Heuer, 6-2, 6-3.

No. 3 — Lexie Sherrick-Amanda Williams (St) def. Cate Huss-Mac Molnar, 6-1, 6-4.
