OAK PARK HEIGHTS — Snapping a two-match losing streak in conference play, the Stillwater girls’ tennis team dispatched Roseville 6-1 in Tuesday’s Suburban East Conference dual at Stillwater Area High School.

The Ponies (4-2 SEC, 7-3), who were upended by league front-runners Forest Lake and Mounds View in their two most recent dual meets, did not lose a set while sweeping the three doubles matches and also won three points in singles.

Savannah Johnson and Aliza Deming combined to lose just five games in their victories at first and second singles while Shelby Anderson required more effort to outlast Kari Norris 1-6, 7-5, (10-5) at third singles.

“This was an important win against Roseville,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “Doubles played rock solid today. Savannah and Aliza were very efficient in their efforts at first and second singles and the amtch of the day was Shelby Anderson at third singles.”

Jenna Sherrick and Hannah Quinn breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at first doubles while Remi Larson and Emma Germundson did not lose a game in their triumph at No. 2 doubles. Lexie Sherrick and Amanda Williams completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the third spot.

Ponies win Hibbing Invite

At Hibbing, the Stillwater girls’ tennis team was able to enjoy its longest road trip of the season after prevailing in Saturday’s eight-team Hibbing Invitational.

The Ponies received its only first-place finish at third singles, but didn’t lose more than one match at any of the remaining six spots to total 27 points. Eveleth-Gilbert placed second with 23 points and Bemidji was third with 16 points.

“The girls had a great time and good success in Hibbing,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “Emma Germundson put together a really gutty effort and battled out a third-set tie-breaker to win the flight.”

Germundson had little trouble in her first two victories, but needed to rally for a 3-6, 6-4, (10-8) victory over Kendra Berry of Duluth East in the finals at third singles.

Stillwater received a runner-up finish from a trio of players at fourth singles and from Remi Larson and Shelby Anderson at second doubles. The Ponies also placed third at first singles (Savannah Johnson) and third doubles (three different teams).
