Sundstrom joins TIES, leaves MISD

ST. PAUL — Stillwater resident and former Mahtomedi Public Schools official Denise Sundstrom has joined TIES as the education technology cooperative’s director of finance and operations, TIES officials announced.
Sundstrom has more than 25 years of school district finance and business management experience and was director of business services for Mahtomedi schools for 10 years.
“TIES’ strategy is to acquire the highest grade of talent and leadership to achieve our mission,” said Betty Schweizer, TIES executive director. “Denise Sundstrom is a prime example of that talent and leadership, and we are pleased she will be working with us to ensure the best service possible to our member districts.”

St. Croix Valley homes part of tour

Three St. Croix Valley residences, one in Marine on St. Croix and two in Hudson, Wis., are among 23 Twin Cities area homes on the 6th Annual AIA MN Home by Architects tour from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 21-22.
The two-day tour features new and remodeled homes all designed by registered architect members of the American Institute of Architects Minnesota. Valley homes on the tour are at 575 Judd St. in Marine and 539 Galahad Road and 272 Salishan Drive, both in Hudson. Visitors to the homes can meet the architects and learn about the design process.
Tickets are $15 in advance up to 4 p.m. Sept. 20 and $20 for a full event ticket or $10 for an individual home, and can be purchased at

Wipfli cracks Top 25 on list

MILWAUKEE — Wipfli LLP, one of the leading CPA and consulting firms in the United States, ranked among the top 23 firms on Inside Public Accounting’s 100 Largest Accounting Firms list for 2013, company officials announced.
The firm, which has an office in Lake Elmo, moved up two places from last year when it ranked number 25. The rankings are based on U.S. net revenue.
Wipfli is a national accounting and business consulting firm with more than 1,100 associates and 23 offices in the United States and India. The firm provides private and publicly held companies with industry-focused assurance, accounting, tax and consulting services to help clients overcome their business challenges today and assist them in planning for tomorrow.

MDA releases 2013 ‘Greenbook’

ST. PAUL — The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) has released its 2013 edition of the Greenbook, highlighting the results of innovative projects that test new approaches to raising crops and livestock in Minnesota, agency officials said.
The projects are funded by the MDA’s Sustainable Agriculture Demonstration Grant Program and promote environmental stewardship and conservation of resources.
MDA Commissioner Dave Frederickson said the Greenbook is a valuable resource for farmers, researchers, and others seeking to improve profitability and quality of life on farms and in rural areas.
Greenbook Editor Jean Ciborowski said the new edition features nine sustainable agriculture projects in three major topic areas: cropping systems and soil fertility; fruits and vegetables; and livestock.
