County to start acquiring Manning ROW

WashCo_logo           Washington County will proceed acquiring $350,000 worth of right-of-way as part of an upgrade to Manning Avenue after the Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to proceed with the purchases.

The project scheduled for next year would upgrade Manning Avenue from County State Aid Highway 12 to Minnesota 96 would would be jointly done by the county, cities of Stillwater and Grant and Stillwater Township.

The project rights-of-way would be acquired from 22 parcels, according to county Public Works Department officials.

In other actions, commissioners:

  • Appointed Stephen Schmaltz to an unexpired term on the Comfort Lake-Forest Lake Watershed District. The term expires Sept. 22, 2014.
  • Approved a contract with New Journeys to provide foster care for disabled persons in Forest Lake.

New Journeys is opening a Forest Lake facility for four clients eligible for home- and community-based services through medical assistance waivers. New Journeys operates four similar sites in St. Louis County under the name Heartland Homes of Duluth LLC.

New Journeys clients are persons needing regular individualized supervision and help with daily activities based on level of need. Three of the four clients slated to move to the Forest Lake facility currently live in a Heartland Home in St. Louis County and have asked to move back to Washington County.

  • Reviewed a gambling permit from Wishes & More for a planned Feb. 1 raffle at the Withrow Ballroom & Event Center in May Township. The application goes to the state Gambling Board for approval.
  • Approved two temporary liquor licenses for Minnesota Food Association events Sept. 22 and Oct. 12 at Big River Farms in May Township.
