Paddleboard programs at Square Lake
Men, women and children can learn to surf “Minnesota-style” at free paddleboard classes offered by Brown Dog Paddleboard Co. next month at Square Lake Park.
A free stand-up paddleboard demonstration from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday will teach participants ages 12 years and older maneuvering skills, balance and provide a full-body workout. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Women 18 years of age and older can attend two sessions of “ladies community paddleboard” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 6 and Aug. 20 at Square Lake Park. Participants can bring their own paddleboard or rent one for $25 an hour and connect with other stand-up paddleboarders and enjoy calm evening waters.
Anyone 12 years and older can attend an “SUP community paddle” from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 17. Participants can bring their own board or rent one for $25 an hour, connect with other paddleboarders and enjoy an afternoon of recreation. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
A $5 daily parking or $25 annual parking permits are required. Participants can rent boards at the Square Lake Park contact station and cash and credit cards are accepted. Square Lake Park is located at 15450 Square Lake Trail North, at the junction of County Road 59.
Outdoor yoga sessions at Lake Elmo park
LAKE ELMO — The Lake Elmo Park Reserve hosts outdoor yoga classes from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays at the park reserve’s North Picnic Shelter through Sept. 5.
Registered yoga teacher Kim Thomas leads the beginner to intermediate program for participants ages 14 years and older. Participants can tune into the sights and sounds of nature and release stress through guided yoga sequences designed to improve balance, flexibility, breathing and awareness.
Participants should plan to arrive 10 minutes early and bring their own yoga mat. Drinking fountains, restrooms and parking are available at the park’s North Picnic Shelter. In the event of rain, the sessions are indoors at the park’s Nordic Center.
Classes cost $5 per person and registration is required and can be done in person at the park contact station or by calling 651-430-8370. A $5 daily or $25 annual parking permit is also required.
Lake Elmo Park Reserve is at 1515 Keats Ave., one mile north of Interstate 94 at County roads 10 and 19.
Lake Elmo park boat launch closes Aug. 2-4
LAKE ELMO — The Lake Elmo Park Reserve boat launch will close to public use Aug. 2-4 for the 110th Annual North Western International Rowing Association Championship Regatta.
Rowing competition is Saturday and Sunday and includes rowing clubs from the Upper Midwest and Canada. The the Minneapolis Rowing Club sponsors the event.
