MEDINA — A trio of Stillwater-area players made the cut at this week’s 110th Minnesota Golf Association Amateur Championship, which continues on Wednesday with the third and final round at Medina Golf & Country Club.
Will Hickey of StoneRidge Golf Club enters the final round in eighth place with a 146 total after following up Monday’s opening round 74 with an even-par 72 on Tuesday, which is six shots behind leader Sam Matthew (70-70—140) of Midland Hills Country Club. Ben Welle of Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead is one shot back in second place at 141 while Andy Jacobson of Eagle Creek Golf Course is third at 142. Jacobson and Welle shared the first round lead after each carded a 69 on Monday.
Andy Paulson of Oak Glen Golf Club is tied for 12th at 148 and Topher Baron of Sawmill Golf Club stands 24th entering the final round with a score of 150.
Stillwater Area High School graduate Kyle Scanlon missed the cut by two shots after shooting 78-78—156, a total that was matched by Stillwater Junior High School teacher Jordan Hawkinson (76-80—156), who plays out of Chicago Lakes Golf Course, to tie for 74th. Sixty-two players made the cut at 154.
Joe Kroening of Stillwater Country Club also missed the cut after shooting 80-86—166.
