LAKE ELMO — The Lake Elmo Library welcomes theater artist Danette Olsen to a summer reading program at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday during which she uses the tale of Saint George and the Dragon for a “From the Page to the Stage” creative drama workshop.

Participants will enjoy a variety of theater games and activities using the storyline and characters found on the pages of the famous legend of St. George. This playful, imaginative way of experiencing a story is also a great tool for exploring storytelling and thinking about stories from different perspectives.

“I love working with inter-generational audiences,” said Olsen, who founded the Youth & Family Theatre program at St. Croix Festival Theatre in 2008. “Adult-child acting partners are lively, inventive, and fun. We’re hoping to have an excellent mix of youth and the adults in their lives present for the Lake Elmo Library program.”

Olsen has been an artist in residence at schools and in community settings since the mid-1990s when she lived in River Falls, Wis. Her travels brought her to Ohio, where she served as director of arts education for the Arts Council Lake Erie West. Olsen returned to the Twin Cities where she was a producer with CLIMB Theatre, and then to St. Croix Falls, Wis., where she served as the executive director of Festival Theatre, a small professional theater company. Olsen now works independently as an organizational consultant, artist in residence and a celebrant.

Lake Elmo Public Library is located at 3537 Lake Elmo Ave. in Lake Elmo. Visit lakeelmopubliclibrary.org for more information.
