Synchronized swimming — Senior captain Bridget Nelson is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the state champion Stillwater synchronized swim team. Caitlin Campbell, Lisa Kasperson, Sara Stalland, Lauren Oseland, Talia Junker, Carrie Anderson and Shelbee Jones join Nelson in earning all-conference honors for the Ponies.
Golf — AJ DuPlessis, who will be a senior at Stillwater Area High School, rebounds from a double-bogey on the first hole to shoot a 1-over par 73 to win the 16-18 age group in the Twin Cities Junior Golf Championship at Theodore Wirth Golf Course in Minneapolis.
Professional golf — Through 11 events on the Futures Golf Tour, Stillwater and University of Wisconsin graduate Allie Blomquist ranks 20th on the tour’s money list with $11,596 in earnings. She has collected four top-10 finishes, including a fourth-place showing at the IOS Futures Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas.
Colleges — During the Air Force Academy’s 45th graduation ceremony, Stillwater’s Andy Berg receives the Most Valuable Ice Hockey Player Award. As part of the festivities, Berg also receives a bachelor of science degree and a commission as an Air Force Second Lieutenant. Another Stillwater grad Julie Wieden is among the nominees for the prestigious MIAC Chris Evert Award following a stellar tennis career at the University of St. Thomas.
