10 years ago this week….

 

This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.

 

Boys track and field — Senior Collin Bushman is chosen the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater boys’ track and field team. Elliot Saltzman, Jake Watson, Andrew Boldt, Joe Hooley, Chris Splinter and Jeff Anderson join Bushman in earning all-conference honors for the Ponies.

 

Softball — After guiding the Ponies to the state tournament, Stillwater’s Mike Pavlovich is chosen the Section 4AAA Coach of the Year.

 

Golf — Bernie Jordahl fires an even-par 72 on Day 2 to hold off John Dolan to win the Oak Glen Country Club Championship. Jordahl’s 145 total was three shots better than runner-up John Dolan and five shots ahead of Bill Knoff. Additional winners included Dave Diebel (first flight), Doug Merchant and Dave Klevan (second flight), Al Knox (third), Craig Holmgren (fourth) and Dolan (senior flight). In the net division, Tom Gabriel took top honors with an adjusted score of 135.

 

VFW baseball — Brian Leitch strikes out seven while throwing a six-inning no-hitter as Post #5725 dispatches Rice Street 10-0 at Stillwater Area High School. Mack Ziemer and Marcus Elmer each finish with two hits for Lake Elmo.

    He retired and is still coaching all state track athletes at SAHS. Still the most successful softball coach SAHS has ever had!
