People’s church announces 2013 ‘Blessing Fund’ recipients
BAYPORT — People’s Congregational Church in Bayport announced its 2013 Blessing Fund grant recipients May 5, said Donald Gibb, a church cabinet member.
The grants allow recipients to reach out to people, locally and globally, and provide much needed assistance through essential programs, according to Gibb.
People’s Church sponsors a variety of outreach and missions activities. “The Blessing Fund” is an annual program supporting a diverse mix of social service agencies and individuals working on such problems as homelessness, substance abuse, and basic food and clothing needs, as well as more spiritually focused initiatives reaching out to families and teens, Gibb said.
Since 1999, the Blessing Fund has disbursed more than $442,000 to 79 individuals and organizations, Gibb said. Applicants have received grants ranging from less than $500 to more than $10,000, he added.
“The Blessing Fund process engages all members of the church in deciding through their ballots how the funds will be dispersed”, said Dale Shaller, committee chair.
In the fund’s 14th year of operation, three applicants received a total of $8,696 in funding. The recipients include St. Croix Valley Church Mission to Haiti, Thamarai Learning and Community Centre (India) and Teddy Bears With Two Eyes (www.TeddyBearsWithTwoEyes.com).

People’s hosts bible school
BAYPORT — Children are invited to discover and explore the connection between art, music, drama and faith at People’s Congregational Church of Bayport Vacation Bible School from 5 to 8 p.m. July 15-19.
The theme of “Cast your nets on the other side” (John 21:6), suggests a different kind of Vacation Bible School, designed to help kids from pre-school through ninth grade to discover the rich spiritual resources inside of us that we can connect with through the arts.
Each evening will be devoted to different arts including pottery, painting, music, drama and flower planting and arranging. We gather with a meal and singing from 5 to 5:40 p.m. before moving to hands-on experience with local artists and church members involved in music and arts. Each evening will be enriched by Bible passages that relate to the theme, outside activities and snack times.
To register or for questions, please Contact People’s office at 651-439-5667; or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The cost is free.
