Boys golf: Sicard tied for third at state

COON RAPIDS — Stillwater’s first-time state entries Sam Sicard and Evan Anderson delivered strong performances on Tuesday during the first round of the Class AAA tourney at Bunker Hills.

Sicard, a sophomore, is tied for third overall after turning in an even-par 72 and junior teammate Evan Anderson is not far behind after shooting a roller coaster 75 that leaves him in a tie for 15th entering today’s second and final round. Anderson had the biggest scoring swing among the 25 players who enter the second round within six shots of the lead after shooting 34 and 41. Sicard was slightly steadier at 35 and 37.

Winona senior William Leaf carded a 3-under 69 to lead Wayzata’s Jack Holmgren (71) by two shots after the opening round. Sicard is joined by Riley Gannon of Benilde-St. Margaret’s, Freddy Thomas of Lakeville North and Peter Jones of Owatonna in a tie for third place at 72.

Forest Lake’s top four were separated by just two shots while posting a score of 300 on Tuesday, which is just two shots behind first-round leader Wayzata (298). Eden Prairie is one shot behind the Rangers in third place at 301.
