A New Richmond, Wis., man was killed and two others injured Wednesday night when their boat struck into a rock face along the St. Croix River in Pierce County, Wis.
David Riley, 40, was a passenger in the boat when it hit the sheer rock face north of the Kinnickkinnic State Park beach on the Wisconsin side of the river, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office which responded to the scene around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Riley was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
The boat’s driver and another passenger were taken to Regions Hospital in St. Paul with injuries. The group was apparently on a pleasure ride from Prescott, Wis., to Afton, the PCSO said.
Investigators are trying to determine how fast the boat was going and if speed and low night visibilty were factors in the accident, Alcohol was also found in the boat but it has not been determined if it was a factor.
Riley was the harbor master at Windmill marina in Afton.
Woman faces possible charges
A Stillwater woman faces theft and motor vehicle tampering charges after being caught taking a purse from a neighbors car.
Stillwater Police reports said officers responded to an residence in the 2700 block of Saddle Court for a reported theft from a motor vehicle.
The witness told officers she allegedly saw the woman, Roberta Bohn, open the driver’s door of the vehicle, reach in and take the purse, then walk down the street toward Bohn’s home.
The victim told officers she left her brown metallic purse in her boyfriend’s vehicle and confirmed the purse was stolen. Another witness also saw Bohn allegedly carrying a purse the victim described to Bohn’s home.
Incident reports added that when officers looked up Bohn’s criminal history, they found two similar cases where Bohn is allegedly listed as a suspect.
The case has been forwarded to the City Attorney for formal charges.
