This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Girls golf — Fading slightly with a 48 on her final nine holes, junior Paige Bromen posts a 171 total (82-89) to finish 22nd for Stillwater in the Class AA girls’ golf state tournament at Bunker Hills. Teammate Whitney Windmiller shoots 86 and 88 for a score of 174 to place 33rd for the Ponies.
Girls track and field — Stillwater junior Ladia Albertson-Junkans finishes second in the 1,600- (5:11.20) and 3,200-meter (11:13.90) races to earn a repeat trip to the state meet in those events.
Boys track and field — Scratching on his first two attempts in the triple jump, Jeff Anderson narrowly advanced to the finals on his next jump and then — after scratching on his first two tries in the finals — uncorks a personal best of 44-9 1/2 to advance to state with a second-place finish in the Section 4AA meet. Jake Watson wins the 3,200 in 9:29.67 to qualify for state and also contributes to Stillwater’s first-place 4×800 relay team (8:00.54) that also includes Collin Bushman, Elliot Saltzman and Andrew Boldt.
