Standout students honored

52313_bookawardA select group of Ivy League schools across the nation annually acknowledge52313_bookaward2 high school juniors for their contributions to schools and communities. Seven Stillwater Area High School Juniors were honored Thursday morning by these universities. “The intention is to allow the selective college admissions application screening see what the school offers and also gives students a stepping stone if they would choose to go to these schools,” said SAHS Counselor Kate Nelson. The top 25 students in the junior class are invited to apply for these awards. They submit resumes and a committee meets to selects students from those applicants. Schools this year included Colby College, Dartmouth College, Harvard, Saint Michael’s College, Wellesley College and Yale University. The awards honor academic achievement; excellence in English and Writing; excellence in scholarship and high achievement in extracurriculars; community service; excellent character and academic record; and excellence and scholarship personal character and intellectual promise respectively.
