Board OK’s contract changes with state court system

WashCo_logoSeveral changes to the contract between Washington County and the 10th Judicial District covering court operations at the County Courthouse were approved Tuesday by the Board of Commissioners.

Agreement changes include court hours going to 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; updates to courthouse building drawings showing space occupied and used by the courts, and increasing the per pay period fee the court pays the county by 2 percent yearly through July 1, 2015 for payroll and benefits administration for court employees retaining county benefits.

The new courthouse hours brings the court in line with working hours at other county departments that went into effect earlier this year.

A 2005 agreement had the state assume responsibility for district court operation costs and reduced state court aid to the county by an equal amount. Although a majority of court functions and costs are state-funded, the county covers several services including court facilities and some court-appointed attorney costs.

A 2006 agreement between the county and 10th Judicial District Court outlines the county’s responsibilities related to the court facility and state payments to the county for certain costs.
