Girls track and field: Ponies finish sixth at True Team state

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — A victory in the 4×800 relay was the lone top-three showing for Stillwater on Friday at the True Team Class AAA state track and field meet at Stillwater Area High School.

The Ponies, who totaled 646 points, finished outside the top five at this event for just the third time in their past nine appearances at this popular event. Lakeville South scored 910 points to defend its title while Prior Lake was the runner-up with 806.5 points. Lakeville North (757.5) held off Mounds View (753.5) by just four points to secure third place while Minnetonka followed in fifth at 695.5.

Stillwater triumphed in the first race of the night as Bria Eder-Zdechlik, Hannah Anderson, Larissa Colvin and Maria Morley won the 4×800 relay in a time of 9:35.79. Morley (2:21.26) and Anderson (2:21.87), an eighth-grader, added fourth- and fifth-place finishes in the 800-meter race.

The Ponies also received fifth-place finishes from Fiona Montie in the 200 (26.82), Brooke Hunter in the 100 hurdles (16.04), Rachel Amos in the triple jump (34-3 3/4) and Dayshia Coleman in the shot put (38-4), which was a personal best for the senior.

Shelby Litchy contributed a sixth-place effort for Stillwater in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.36.

After completing the Suburban East Conference meet on Thursday at East Ridge, the Ponies are slated to host the Section 4AA championships on May 28 and 30. Stillwater is the defending conference and section champion.
