Library displays Welo works

The artworks of Minnesota native Larry Welo are on display this month and June in the Stillwater Public Library Gallery.
The printmaker’s unique style has garnered praise from critics and Welo’s art is displayed nationwide.

Bayport bargain hunt set June 7-8

BAYPORT — The 8th Annual Bayport Citywide Garage Sale is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 7 and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 8.
Sign up is free at City Hall until June 3. Maps will be available at City Hall, on the city web site and at local businesses by June 5.

Plant sale, clinic set June 2

The University of Minnesota Extension Service Master Gardeners of Washington County holds its annual plant sale and diagnostic clinic June 2 in the Washington County Fairgrounds 4-H Building.
The master gardeners’ group sells plants and answers yard- and garden-related questions from home gardeners. The clinic is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the plant sale is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The plant sale features quality perennials from master gardeners’ home and demonstration gardens of vegetables, herbs, and annuals started from seed. At the Diagnostic Clinic, master gardeners and specially-trained tree care advisors, home insect control specialists and others will answer questions, and visitors are encouraged to bring in plant or insect samples with their gardening questions.
Sale proceeds support master gardener educational activities in the county. Participants in the University of Minnesota Master Gardener Program are specially trained volunteers interested in horticulture and community service. Their mission is to educate the public with research-based information on the best practices in consumer horticulture and environmental stewardship.

Arcola Mills hosts carving class

Jim Sannerud, an instructor at North House Folk School, The American Swedish Institute, the Vesterheim Museum and the AAW Gallery of Wood Art, teaches students the art of spoon carving on Tuesday evenings from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 28-June 11 at Arcola Mills in Stillwater.
Cost is $90 and includes materials and use of tools. Students will have a spoon at the end of the class. Class size is limited to register call 651-484-9094 or visit www.arcolamills.org

Arcola Mills hosts fly fishing workshops

The National Park Service and volunteers from the Federation of Fly Fishers hold fly fishing workshops June 8 at William O’Brien State Park in May Township and June 9 at Wild River State Park in Center City.
Both workshops are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Entrance to O’Brien state park is free June 8 as part of National Get Outdoors Day and the Minnesota State Parks open house. An annual or daily state park vehicle pass is required to enter Wild River State Park June 9.
The sessions are led by NPS Ranger John Eret and FFF volunteers. The morning session covers fundamentals, equipment and fly tying. The afternoon sessions have casting demonstrations wtih small-group, hands-on instruction.
Equipment is available for participants at the free workshops and no registration is required. Participants should bring lunches and snacks. The workshops are designed for persons 13 years and older and will be cancelled if there is severe weather.

YSB golf event seeks entrants

Registration for Youth Service Bureau “Tee One Up for Kids” golf event July 11 at Tartan Park Golf Club is now open.
YSB helps youths and families learn skills needed to be more successful at home, in school and throughout the community. Youths learn decision-making skills and anger management techniques that help them make better choices.
Cost is $100, but persons signing up by May 31 will be charged $90. A foursome costs $324 by May 31 and $360 after. Cost includes lunch, 18 holes of golf, tips from a pro, games and prizes and a picnic dinner.
