OAK PARK HEIGHTS — There was no dampener for Senior Night on Wednesday as Stillwater breezed to a 16-2 Suburban East Conference boys’ lacrosse victory over Forest Lake at Stillwater Area High School.
The win leaves the Ponies (6-1 SEC, 8-2) alone in second place in the league standings behind White Bear Lake (7-0, 8-1).
Junior Sam Sagissor racked up six goals and three assists to set the pace for the Ponies, who also received two goals apiece from Nick Athmann and Brandon Jungmann. Chris Rick added a goal, but contributed in countless other ways with 10 ground balls and winning 12 of 15 faceoffs to help spark the attack.
Max Evensen, Harrison Yaste, Jeff Petersen, Carter Cannon and Matt Kaye added a goal each for Stillwater.
“There was nothing special about the coaching tonight,” Ponies coach Ryan Clark said. “We had a simple game plan of things we were trying to accomplish and our student-athletes made the plays. I think we played team first, unselfish lacrosse.”
Zach Shockency, a sophomore, totaled six saves in goal for the Ponies, who have outscored their 10 opponents by a combined 86-46 this season.
“Our program is really blessed with great student-athletes,” Clark said. “Fifteen will graduate our program this season and every one of them has contributed to the legacy. Our student-athletes play for something bigger than themselves. What a great night to celebrate our seniors.”
