Forest Lake extended its lead in the conference standings after holding off Stillwater for a one-shot victory in Monday’s Suburban East Conference girls’ golf meet at Stillwater Country Club.

The Rangers posted a winning score of 183 on Monday to clip Stillwater (184) and East Ridge (186) in another tight conference battle as the top seven teams were separated by just eight shots.

Erin Thiets led the Ponies with a 42 on the par-36 front nine while Amanda Wolf and Anna Kaul each finished at 46. Leah Kroenning completed the scoring with a 50. Maddie Luoma and Sydney O’Neal followed at 55 and 56 for the Ponies.

Annemarie Fisher of Woodbury claimed medalist honors with a 39.

l Also on Monday, the Stillwater JV team finished third and remains in a three-way tie for the conference lead with Mounds View and Forest Lake. Ana Reding led the Ponies with a 50 while teammates Katie Clark (51) and Rachel Billingsley (51) each finished one shot back.

Ponies 14th at Red Wing

At Red Wing, competing in arguably the strongest field of any tournament in the state this spring, the Stillwater girls’ golf team placed 14th in Tuesday’s Red Wing Invitational at Red Wing Golf Club.

Erin Thiets carded a 90 to lead the Ponies, who turned in a team score of 385. Detroit Lakes cruised to the title with a score of 311 while the host Wingers finished second at 333.

Amanda Wolf and Maddie Luoma finished at 95 and 99 for Stillwater while Ali Reding completed the scoring with a 102 under warm and windy conditions.
