Mariah Smith ‑ Synchronized swimming
A newcomer to the program this year, Mariah Smith has helped the Stillwater synchronized swim continue an impressive run of success with yet another undefeated regular season.
The senior finished first in solo (69.167) and joined teammate Katie Koenning to win the duet and also contributed to Stillwater’s first-place extended team (71.5) as the Ponies defeated Forest Lake 37-9 in Tuesday’s regular season finale. The victory extended Stillwater’s winning streak to at least 173 in a row dating back to 1989. Smith and Koenning also won the duet in a May 2 victory over Osseo/Maple Grove.
The Ponies (4-0 EMC, 7-0) travel to Richfield to compete in the East Section Meet on May 17-18.
Lars Lillehei ‑ Boys golf
One of the sports hit hardest by the late arrival of spring, senior Lars Lillehei is taking advantage of its arrival with a fast start for the Stillwater boys’ golf team.
Lillehei opened the season with a 19th-place finish at the Tri-State Invitational on April 26-27 and then shot 73 to share medalist honors in Stillwater’s runner-up finish at Monday’s Don Saatzer Invitational. After shooting an 83 on his second 18-hole round on Monday to help the Ponies win an eight-team invite at Stillwater Country Club, Lillehei carded a 77 to provide the low round for the Ponies in a fifth-place showing in their SEC opener at Prestwick Golf Club.
Stillwater will compete in an SEC meet tonight at Forest Hills Golf Club.
