OAK PARK HEIGHTS — A strong performance in the singles lifted White Bear Lake to a 5-2 Suburban East Conference boys’ tennis victory over the Ponies on Thursday at Stillwater Area High School.

Daniel Ahrendt held off Reece Huff 7-6 (8-6), 3-6, (10-6) for Stillwater’s lone singles victory at the third spot, but the Bears won in straight sets in each of the other three matches.

White Bear Lake also won two of three doubles matches, including a 3-6, 6-3, (10-5) win by Spencer Gressen and Lukas Carlson over John Talbot and Steig Peterson at the third spot.

“White Bear just played better than we did today,” Ponies coach Dave Kahl said. “We lost a third-set tiebreaker at third doubles and we got nice wins at third singles and first doubles, but came up on the short end in all the rest. Well played match by White Bear.”

The Ponies (1-5 SEC, 2-5) were scheduled to play in the Eau Claire Memorial tournament this weekend, but that has been cancelled because of snow.

l In exhibition singles matches on Thursday, Riley Hollerbach (6-0, 6-1) and Jonathan Luk (6-3) each posted victories over White Bear Lake’s Vincent Han.
