This is a look back at some of the people and teams making news in the St. Croix Valley 10 years ago, as reported in the Stillwater Gazette.
Boys golf — Chad Bischoff shoots a 2-over 37 to pace five Ponies in the 30s, but Stillwater settles for a fourth-place finish in a Suburban East Conference boys’ golf meet at River Oaks Golf Course. David Keefer cards a 38 while Justin Magill, Devin Fure and AJ DuPlessis each contribute a 39 as the Ponies turn in a score of 153.
Softball — Behind a complete game five-hitter from Kari Boughten, the Stillwater softball team defeats White Bear Lake 7-1 to move into a three-way tie for first place in the Suburban East Conference standings with the Bears and Roseville. Melanie Preiner, Amanda Anderson and Jenny Thill deliver two hits apiece for the Ponies.
Boys tennis — Overcoming a minor wardrobe malfunction in the process, first singles player Holden Clauson provides a point as part of Stillwater’s 7-0 Suburban East Conference victory over Park. Clauson rips his shorts during his match, but teammate Joe Zintl offers a spare pair from his bag, allowing Clauson to close out a 7-5, 6-1 victory.
SAHS — Stillwater senior Krysta Skarda signs a National Letter of Intent to play women’s hockey at Ohio State.
