Boys track and field: Ponies prevail at Bob Stewart Invite

 

ARDEN HILLS — The Stillwater boys’ track and field team racked up 228 points to easily surpass Mounds View and the rest of the six-team field in Tuesday’s Bob Stewart Invite at Mounds View High School.

The Ponies notched four first-place finishes, which was two fewer than Mounds View, but still outscored the Mustangs (176.10) by more than 51 points. Woodbury was a distant third with 117.10 points.

Stillwater finished with four of the top five times, with three finishing in under two minutes, in the 800 meters. Eric Colvin led the way with a winning time of 1:57.66 and teammates Wayde Hall (1:58.18) and Sean Bjork (1:59.79) were not far behind. Eli Krahn followed in third place with a time of 2:02.69 for the Ponies, who placed six runners among the top nine.

Stillwater’s other victory on the track came from Johnny Randazzo, Sam Keran, Davonte Thompson and Caleb Fick in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:35.66.

Nate Bird won the discus with a distance of 152- 1/2 and Connor O’Neill finished first in the pole vault after clearing 13-6.

In addition to Hall in the 800, the Ponies also received runner-up finishes from Bailey Hesse-Withbroe (1,600), Nathan Schlosser (110 hurdles), Alex Burback (shot put), O’Neill (high jump) and the 4×100 and 4×800 relay teams.
