Sutphen poetry reading May 8

5K run-walk supports SOMN

MINNEAPOLIS — A new Summer Games 5K walk-run for persons with and without intellectual disabilities will be held in conjunction with the 2013 Special Olympics Summer Games in June at Stillwater Area High School.

Registration fof the Summer Games 5K run-walk is open through noon Friday. On-site registration is 3:30 to 5 p.m. June 21. The race starts at 5:30 p.m.

Foreclosure workshop May 6 in Oakdale

The Washington County Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) will hold a mortgage foreclosure prevention workshop from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the WCL Oakdale Library at 1010 Heron Ave. North.

The workshops are for anyone who has questions and needs advice from trained foreclosure prevention counselors.

Anyone behind on their mortgage, worried about keeping up with mortgage payments or wants to know more about the foreclosure process can attend. Those who are worried about foreclosure should seek help immediately. Waiting might limit the options.

The workshop is an open houses and no pre-registration is required. The workshop includes a 45-minute presentation summarizing the foreclosure process. Participants also have an opportunity to meet with a foreclosure prevention counselor. It helps the counselor respond to any concerns if participants bring any communication received from a lender or loan servicer; proof of income (e.g., recent pay stub), and a copy of a mortgage statement.

Hope House benefit auction May 11

The 18th Annual Hope House benefit auction is 9:30 a.m. May 11, rain or shine, under the tents at Hope House, 451 N. Everett St. in Stillwater.

Items ranging from merchandise, art and antiques, bed-and-breakfast stays, restaurant certificates and services are donated to the auction by area businesses, organizations and individuals. All proceeds benefit Hope House of St. Croix Valley, an adult foster care facility for persons living with HIV/AIDS.

Preview is 9:30 a.m. and the sale starts at 10. Lunch is also served. Sales are cash, check with proper identification, Visa or MasterCard.

Lower St. Croix camping permits available

ST. CROIX FALLS, Wis. — The National Park Service (NPS) at the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway announces that the annual permit required for camping on the Lower St. Croix River is available.

Anyone camping along the St. Croix River between St. Croix Falls, Wis., and Taylors Falls and the Soo Line High Bridge (river mile 29.5) must obtain a permit because camping in this area is limited to designated campsites.

The free camping permit is available at the St. Croix River Visitor Center, 401 North Hamilton St. in St. Croix Falls, The center is currently open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. Beginning Saturday, the visitor center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Call 715-483-2274 for information.

The permit application is also available online at www.nps.gov/sacn for people to print, read, sign and mail to the visitor center. After reviewing the application, NPS staff will mail the permit.
