OCK offers breakfast meetings, gatherings for small donation
Our Community Kitchen (OCK) takes a healthy start to a busy work day a step further by offering small business groups a feel-good opportunity to pay it forward over breakfast.
For more than a year, OCK has served delicious breakfasts with a helping of fellowship to a mix of 50 to 75 neighbors in need and those with help to offer from 8 to 10 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at The Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 214 N. Third St. in Stillwater.
There is no cost for the breakfasts served at OCK. Those enjoying a healthy breakfast are asked for a $5 donation, and if they can afford more, pay a little extra for someone less fortunate in the community. Regardless of whether a person can pay for breakfast or not, the more people who visit OCK the better for all since everyone needs a nutritious and flavorful start to their day.
Business groups or other gatherings of up to 20 guests, who sit together in semi-private space, are asked to make a $10 donation per person to support and further OCK’s work in the community.
On any given Tuesday or Thursday morning, breakfast guests can enjoy a menu featuring savory crepes with scrambled eggs and sautéed vegetables; sweet potato pancakes with apple cranberry compote; or breakfast burritos with scrambled eggs, sautéed vegetables and homemade salsas. Special breakfast menus can be designed to suit a group’s tastes for an additional donation fee.
The meals served at OCK address a real need: confronting issues of obesity and chronic disease in Washington County especially among youth, elderly and low-income residents of the St. Croix Valley.
By offering a healthy variety of chemical-free, locally produced fresh fruits and vegetables, bringing volunteers into the kitchen, introducing people to nutritious foods, teaching children and adults how to prepare healthy menus, OCK is creating a community of friends that make sure none in our neighborhood go hungry.
