The Stillwater Human Rights Commission is accepting nominations for the “Stillwater Human Rights Award” that recognizes persons, organizations and businesses for their efforts to build environments which promote fair and equal treatment for everyone.
Eligibility requirements are:.
- The nominee must be an individual, business or organization that resides, works or volunteers in the city of Stillwater, and whose actions promoting respect for all people have occurred primarily in the city.
- The nominee’s activities proposed for recognition should be related to enjoyment and protection of human rights without regard to race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, disability, sexual orientation or age. Added weight is given for activities of a nominee that have occurred over an extended period of time.
- The nominee’s activities must either be voluntary or be above and beyond the usual job responsibilities of an employee, or the usual customer relations practices of a business or organization.
Nominations should be submitted on the Nomination Form available at City Hall, by calling 651-430-8800 or on the City’s Web Site www.ci.stillwater.mn.us.
Nominations must be received, not postmarked, by May 22 to Stillwater Human Rights Commission, Stillwater City Hall, 216 Fourth Street N., Stillwater, MN 55082.
In addition to seeking award nominees, the city also is taking applications for two openings on the Human Rights Commission. The volunteer positions are appointed by the City Council and the commission meets at 7 p.m. on the last Wednesday of the month.
The HRC advises the City Council in ensuring all city residents have equal opportunity in those areas protected by law. The commission has seven members who serve three-year terms.
Criteria for evaluation include, but are not limited to personal and professional experience relating to the subject area of the board; knowledge of the community; knowledge of city government, and experience from similar appointments. Application deadline is open until the vacancies are filled.
