Stillwater resident and Auburn gymnastics recruit Mary Jane Rott advanced to the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic National Championships following a sterling performance at the Minnesota State Meet in St. Joseph on March 23-24.
Rott, who trains at Rising Stars Gymnastics Academy, will make her third consecutive trip to the national championships, and fifth overall, after winning the Level 10 all-around title in the 16-and-older age group at the state meet.
Rott posted a winning all-around score of 38.55, a total that included first-place finishes in the floor (9.725) and beam (9.625), a second-place finish in vault (9.775) and fourth-place effort in the bars (9.425).
If that wasn’t enough, Rott captured the Region 4 all-around title with a score of 38.275 at the Senior Division at the Region 4 Championships in St. Louis April 12-14. Rott posted the top scores in the vault (9.775), beam (9.625) and floor (9.525) while placing third in the bars (9.35).
Rott and fellow Auburn signee Kullen Hlawek drew praise from Tigers gymnastics coach Jeff Graba.
“We are very excited that both Kullen and Mary Jane were able to not only qualify on to the National Championship meet but also shine in the Regional Qualifiers,” Graba said in an Auburn press release. “It’s a great sign for the future of our team. We are counting on both girls to come in and be contributors for us next year as freshmen and we believe they have the talent to do that.”
Level 10 gymnast Amy Enright also qualified for the Region 4 Championships after delivering strong performances at state in the vault (9.10) and floor (9.075). Lake Elmo gymnasts Danielle Keran, competing at Level 8, also qualified for regionals.
