UCare to commend Washington County’s free car seat program

WashCo_logo            UCare will honor the Washington County Department of Public Health and Environment for support of UCare’s “Seats, Education and Travel Safety (SEAT) car seat program during Tuesday’s Board of Commissioners meeting.

UCare representatives Carol Berg and Pat Schaffner will present DPHE Family Health Program Manager Jill Timm with an appreciation certificate recognizing the county as one of the top four car seat distributors in UCare’s SEATS program.

“For many years, Jill Timm and her Public Health team have been valued UCare partners in our work to promote the use of child safety seats by our Medicaid members in Washington County,” said Ghita Worcester, UCare senior vice president for public affairs and marketing.

UCare’s SEATS program provides free car seats and education to eligible UCare members who are pregnant or children up to age 8. More than 75 public health agencies and groups in Minnesota dispense three types of car seats and offer seat installation education from a nationally-certified child passenger safety technician. UCare is the only health plan in the state requiring education as part of its car seat program.

UCare has provided more than 30,000 free car seats for eligible members since 1997. UCare was the first health plan in the state to offer car seats to low-income Medicaid families.

The County Board meets at 9 p.m. in the fifth-floor boardroom at the County Government Center in Stillwater.
