After finishing his career No. 4 on the program’s all-time victories list with a 123-46 record, senior Austin Jordan was named the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater wrestling team at its postseason awards banquet at Stillwater Area High School on March 25.

Jordan, who joined eighth-grader Christian Bahl in earning all-state honors after placing fourth at the state tournament, finished with a 39-8 record this season after becoming just the 11th Ponies wrestler to eclipse the 100-victory mark in his career. He also received the Wrestler of the Year Award and the Stillwater Booster Club Scholarship, which he will use at Augustana College in the fall.

Dillan Nelson and Sebastian Dingle joined Jordan in receiving All-Suburban East Conference honors while Bahl, Collin Olson, Mitchell Schertz and Wayde Hall were honorable mention all-conference selections.

The Ponies finished the season with a 17-19 record, including 7-2 to tie Woodbury for second place in the Suburban East Conference. Stillwater was later defeated by the Royals 32-27 in the Section 4AAA finals. Despite falling shy in the team tourney, the Ponies did send a school record nine wrestlers to the individual state meet, including Bahl, Hall, Jordan, Nelson, Matt Riehle, Grant Wohlwend, Dingle and Haden Hausken.

Hall was joined by teammates Ben Sweet, Kjell Sandstrom, Gage LeBourgeios and John Huntley in receiving Academic Team honors.

David Olson received the Impact Award for the Ponies while Collin Olson, LeBourgeios and Huntley were honored as the most improved wrestlers this season.

Huntley, Sweet and LeBourgeios also garnered the Coaches Award(s) and Huntley also received the Grand Turkey Award as the Turkey Trot race winner.

David Olson was this year’s recipient of the Joey Gould Memorial Scholarship Award, which was presented by Gould’s sister Chris Scribner. Gould was a 1997 Stillwater graduate and former Ponies football and wrestling standout who passed away at the age of 32.

The Keller Memorial Scholarship was presented to Hall.
