Synchronized swimming: Ponies win opener

 

The Stillwater synchronized swim team opened its season on Tuesday with a 23-6 victory over Osseo/Maple Grove in a figures meet at Stillwater Junior High School.

It was the first meet for the Ponies (1-0) under new head coach Kathy Henderson as Stillwater continued an undefeated streak that numbers at least 167 in a row dating back to 1989.

Mariah Smith led the Ponies on Tuesday with a first-place score of 64.610, nearly three points ahead of runner-up Marisa Lee of Osseo/Maple Grove (61.654).

Stillwater filled out each of the next seven spots with Skyler Olson (61.350), Elise Adrian (61.061), Emily Adrian (60.969), Claire Haws (60.710), Vessa Pearsall (59.557), Katie Koenning (59.495) and Grace Gualtieri (57.938).

The Ponies will host Forest Lake in an East Metro Conference figures meet on Thursday.

l Also on Tuesday, Stillwater opened the season with a 29-0 victory over Osseo/Maple Grove in the JV competition. Kaitlyn Burgess (23.868), Sophie Ogaard (23.588) and Danielle Snow (23.478) recorded the top three scores for the Ponies.
