Junior defenseman Mitch Reinke was honored as the Most Valuable Player for the Stillwater boys’ hockey team at its postseason awards banquet at Oak Glen Golf Club on March 19.
Reinke, who joined goaltender Colton Anderson in earning All-Suburban East Conference for the Ponies, finished with three goals and 12 assists for 15 points in 25 games. Anderson, who posted a .899 save percentage with a 2.66 goals against average, was named the SEC Goalie of the Year.
The Ponies finished with a 10-14-2 record, including 6-10-2 to place eighth in the Suburban East Conference. Stillwater was defeated by eventual state runner-up Hill-Murray 6-2 in the Section 4AA semifinals.
Senior Nick Anderson ranked second for the Ponies with 20 points on a team-high 13 goals to go along with seven assists to join Tyler Fitzsimmons, Brandon Jungmann and Devin Cates in receiving honorable mention all-conference recognition. Cates led the Ponies with 22 points on 6 goals and 16 assists. Fitzsimmons finished with 8 goals and 11 assists to ranked third for Stillwater with 19 points.
Fitzsimmons received the Unsung Hero Award for the Ponies while Cates was selected the team’s Most Improved Player. Jon Heddle was chosen the Rookie of the Year while Pat Courteau and Blake Kohanek were co-recipients of the 7th Player Award.
Josh Clark was selected the team’s Hobey Baker Award winner while Anderson was presented the Hubbard Award.
Reinke and Jon Peterson were elected captains for the 2013-14 team.
