Carpenter Nature Center interim director Jennifer Vieth was named the center’s new executive director effective April 1, the CNC board of directors announced Monday.
Vieth takes over from Jim Fitzpatrick, who retired after 32 years at the center.
“The personnel committee received numerous resumes and had several good interviews. However, when the process was completed, Jen was clearly the choice of this committee,” said Don Kern, personnel committee chairman.
Vieth had previously served as Carpenter’s development director. Prior to joining CNC, she worked at the University of Minnesota Raptor Center and the World Bird Sanctuary in St. Louis. Vieth is a Kingston, Ontario, Canada, native and has a biology degree from Queen’s University.
“I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve Carpenter Nature Center and our community,” Vieth said. “CNC has a stellar reputation of providing school children with inspiring environmental education and we plan to continue this important service. As the director of Carpenter Nature Center, I plan to do everything I can to ensure that our children’s children can explore CNC’s trails, watch nesting eagles and learn about the wonders of the natural world for many, many years to come.
Vieth lives in Hastings with her husband, Greg, and their two children.
