SHERBURN — A mass of Christian burial for Barbara A. Theobald, 87, of Edina, and formerly of Sherburn, was March 12, 2013, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn, Minn., with the Rev. Brian Sutton as celebrant and the Rev. Charles Quinn as con-celebrant. Burial was in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery in Sherburn. Barbara was called to her eternal rest March 6, 2013, at Golden Living Center in Hopkins. Barbara Ann Theobald was born July 18, 1925, in Jay Township, near Sherburn, to Ambros and Petronella (Mauris) Theobald. She attended a rural school, graduated from Sherburn High School in 1943 and graduated from Mankato State Teacher’s College in 1945. Barbara started her teaching career in 1944 at a rural school and taught for 10 years in elementary schools in southwestern Minnesota and Stillwater. While teaching, she received a B.A. degree from what is now Northern Colorado University in Greeley, Colo., and an M.A. at the University of Minnesota. Barbara moved to Edina, Minnesota in June of 1991. Barbara is survived by two sisters, Lucy (Frank) Filo of Menomonee Falls, Wis., and Julia Layden of Barstow, Calif.; sisters-in-law, Clara Theobald and Gen Theobald both of Sherburn, and 15 nieces and nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Francis, Philip and Mathias Theobald all whom resided in the Sherburn area; sister-in-law, Lorraine Theobald; brother-in-law, William Layden and other relatives. Memorials may be sent to the Dollars for Scholars program at Martin County West School District in Sherburn.
