Music Together is offering free demonstration classes for children toddlers to age 5 and their accompanying adults at 6:15 p.m. March 20, 10:30 a.m. March 21 and 9:30 a.m. March 22 at Valley Dance in the Valley Ridge Mall.

‘Dear Daddy’ in next round

The Z-Fest movie short, “Dear Daddy”, filmed in Stillwater, has moved on to the “Best of the Fest” round at the Mall of America.
The screening and awards show is 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mall of America Theatres. The theatre is now accepting wait list names and might open more seats if enough people respond to get on the waiting list. Tickets are $10 each.

Learn to write a business plan

The Stillwater Public Library offers a class in writing a business plan from 6:30 to 8 p.m. March 19 as part of the library’s computer learning courses for adults.
Women Venture and the Metropolitan Library Service Agency present the class. Participants learn the components of a business plan and the basic tools needed to create a successful plan.

DNA for genealogists

RIVER FALLS, Wis. — John Rys, a 3M retiree and genealogist, will present descriptions of three DNA tests (Y-chromosome, mitochondrial and autosomal) currently used by genealogists at the St. Croix Valley Genealogical Society meeting at 7 p.m. March 21 in the main floor meeting room of the River Falls Public Library.
The presentation describes how these DNA tests are translated into understandable numeric values for use in searching genealogy databases. Examples of DNA test certificates and information on how different DNA testing companies handle DNA searching will be included.

Boating safety courses set

HUDSON, Wis. —The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Hudson flotilla offers a series of eight-hour boating safety courses in April, May and June, flotilla officials announced.
The courses are held from 6-8 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays April 12-13, May 3-4 and June 7-8. Completion of the course satisfies Minnesota and Wisconsin boat and personal watercraft operator requirements.
The flotilla also offers a seven-week boating skills and seamanship course from 6:30-9 p.m. Mondays starting March 4. The class features advanced studies on close quarter boat maneuvering, GPS, radar and AIS.
