In a lego league of their own

Oak-Land Junior High School Real Men of Genius Robotics team students Matthew Palmquist, left, Chris James, Max Rosenmeier, coaches Jeannie Badger and Chris James, Adam Badger and Alexander Pavlicin hold their awards at Minnesota’s FIRST® LEGO® League competition held Feb. 2 at the Washington Technology Magnet School in St. Paul. Months of practice, research, and programming paid off as the Oak-Land team went up against 69 teams at the state tournament from 15 regional tournaments. The team placed first in programming and core values in their judging group and were called back for the Championship Award interview. The Real Men of Genius were awarded the Judges Award given for an inspirational or one-of-a-kind story. In addition, Badger received the Coaches Award for outstanding leadership. (Submitted photo)
