SAHS Athletes of the Week
Haley Balzart ‑ Girls basketball
The Stillwater girls’ basketball team has recorded victories in two of its last three games and Haley Balzart has contributed to that recent success.
The senior delivered 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in Tuesday’s 44-40 Suburban East Conference victory over Hastings — which marked the program’s 500th victory dating back to 1974. Prior to that, Balzart totaled 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 48-46 win over Minneapolis South on Feb. 6 and supplied 12 points and 12 rebounds while also drawing a charge in Friday’s 61-33 loss at Woodbury. Balzart has connected on 13 of 15 free throws in her past two games.
Stillwater (2-13 SEC, 6-17) hosts conference leader Roseville on Friday.
Will Raedeke ‑ Boys alpine skiing
It has been a challenging, but rewarding, road for senior Will Raedeke and the Stillwater alpine ski team, which placed second at the state meet on Wednesday at Giants Ridge.
One of three seniors who have helped anchor the Ponies the past few seasons, Raedeke overcame an injury suffered while weight training to return in time to help the Ponies finish off a successful season and career. Raedeke finished 24th individually and 13th for the purposes of team scoring with a time of 1:20.81 to helping Stillwater capture silver medals at state on Wednesday.
The Ponies also captured Suburban East Conference and Section 4 championships this season.
