FamilyMeans, festival get grants

Shelly Chamberlain, left, of the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council board, presents a $5,000 check to Tom Yuska and Linda Lee representing FamilyMeans in Stillwater for the Arts Exploration Workshop, free weekly experiences in visual arts and hip hop dance for youth ages 5 to 18 in the mobile home community of Landfall. Art experiences takes place at the Teen Center until June.
Chamberlain also presented Scott Zahren of Stillwater with a $5,000 grant for “Paint on the Water: St. Croix Valley Hip Hop Festival” in Stillwater, a one-day hip-hop event featuring aerosol art, B-Boy-ing, B-Girl-ing, MC-ing and DJ-ing. The event will be held at Pioneer Park in Stillwater this September. Both grants were awarded through a competitive process from the MRAC and made possible by Minnesota voters through a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
