Income tax preparation time is here and for many, there is high temptation to procrastinate or breeze through forms without considering deductions. But help is available.
Since 1968, AARP’s volunteer-based tax assistance program has helped nearly 50 million low- to middle-income taxpayers avoid those mistakes. For many, the extra help means more financial stability and peace of mind when resources are few.
In the St. Croix Valley, Community Thread partners with AARP and the Minnesota Department of Revenue to provide staff, volunteers, space and equipment so more than 750 households can receive the help they need to file their annual federal and state income taxes.
Trained AARP volunteers are on site at Community Thread three days a week starting Monday. These volunteers will help low- to moderate-income individuals, especially people over the age of 60, prepare and file their federal and state taxes electronically. Assistance is free and by appointment only.
