Susan P. Howe

RIDGELAND, Wis. — Susan P. Howe, of Ridgeland, died on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire surrounded by her family.

Susan was born on May 29, 1949, in Stillwater to Lester and Phyllis (Schroeder) Rydeen. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater. As a young girl, she enjoyed 4-H projects including showing cattle. She attended Ancker School of Nursing in St. Paul, and started her career as a pediatric nurse at St. Paul Ramsey Hospital.

Susan married Dr. Charles Howe on May 26, 1973. She worked as an RN at Pioneer Nursing Home in Prairie Farm, Wis., for 24 years, and also worked as a bookkeeper for her husband’s veterinary practice. Her hobbies and interests included making quilts, traveling to 46 of the 50 states, crocheting, gardening, watching Twins and Vikings games, tailgating at Iowa State football games, watching her kids play sports and spending time with her grandkids. She was a member of the Ridgeland Lutheran Church, also belonging to the Twilight Circle and ELCA. She was a Sunday school teacher and superintendant, and a 4H leader.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Charles of Ridgeland; son Tim Howe (fiancé Nicci Paulson) of Ridgeland; daughters, Sara (Brian) Gracek of Apple Valley, Minn., Lynnae Howe of North Branch, Minn., and Greta (Chuck) Kahl of Ridgeland; grandchildren, Lauren and Taylor Kahl, and Raymond Gracek; mother Phyllis of Marine On St. Croix; brothers, Gary and Brian Rydeen, both of Marine On St. Croix; sisters: Judy Edstrom of Ridgeland, and Sandra (Jim) Holcomb of Marine On St. Croix; sister-in-law and brothers-in-law: Joyce and Gene Ashley of Gainesville, Fla., and Malcolm Martin of Rockford, Ill. She is further survived by nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Susan is preceded in death by her father, Lester.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at the Ridgeland Community Center in Ridgeland with the Rev. David Sands officiating. Visitation is 9 to 11 a.m. Memorials are preferred to Ridgeland Lutheran Church, 216 Scranton St., Ridgeland, WI 54763.
