Richard Sylvester Kohns, 82, born June 20, 1930, in Meriden, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home Jan. 27, 2013.
Dick was preceded in death by parents, Lawrence and Catherine (Eischen) Kohns, and sisters, Pauline (Kohns) Johansen and Lenore (Kohns) Clark. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years of marriage, Lois (Eckard) Kohns; children, Kathy Kohns, Mike (Nancy) Kohns, Karen (Bob) Carlson, Karla (Brad) Johnson, and Konnie (Shawn) Helwig; grandchildren, Chelsie, Amy, Chad, Kristy, Abby and Adam, plus many relatives and friends.
Dick served in the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed farming and carpentry work in Cherokee, Iowa. The family moved to Stillwater in 1976, where he worked and retired from Andersen Windows in Bayport. Dick also enjoyed working on projects that were the result of his and Lois’ artistic imagination. He will be greatly missed.
A Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 611 S. Third St. in Stillwater. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Simonet Funeral Home, 6428 Osgood Ave. North. Interment is at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Bayport.
