‘Homophone’ spells victory

Students at St. Croix Catholic School students cheer classmate Nelson Summary, standing, who won the Stillwater school’s annual spelling bee Wednesday by correctly spelling the word “homophone.” Kate Smith finished second and Josh Nichols third. Summary, Smith and Nichols advance to the next spelling bee round called the Deanery, where they will compete next week against students from seven other Catholic schools. Other students involved Wednesday’s competition included Carolyn Johnson, Leo Loomis, Carol Boules, Anne Kiolbasa, Jack Batterton and Ben Valerius.
