Think spring at Squire House Gardens sessions


AFTON — Squire House Gardens in Afton hosts a series of Saturday afternoon gardening presentations in January and February that feature lively and informative discussions moderated by landscape artist and store owner Martin Stern.
The Winter Weekend Garden Talk and Tea series schedule includes:

Vita Sackville-West and Sissinghurst Castle Gardens, 1 p.m. Saturday. Explore this lush, exotic paradise with readings (Vita-Sackville West excerpts) and a slide show featuring Stern’s photos from his travels to England.

Newly Introduced Perennial Plants, 1 p.m. Feb. 16. Guest speaker is Mike Heger of Ambergate Gardens, author of “Growing Perennials in Cold Climates.”  Learn about the best new plants for this year and how to enhance your landscape.

Gardening in the Shade, 1 p.m. Feb. 23. Get tips from a garden designer on successfully planting a lavish shade garden.

Complimentary tea is served and after the presentations, guests can browse Squire House Garden’s unique and whimsical merchandise and plants.
