Gymnastics: Stillwater records another SEC win

OAK PARK HEIGHTS — The Stillater gymnastics team improved to 5-0 in the Suburban East Conference after surging past Forest Lake 138.4-132.25 on Thursday at Stillwater Area High School. The score was the second highest of the season for the Ponies.
Led by all-around winner Kylie Wittl with a score of 36.8, the Ponies (5-0) outscored Forest Lake in all four events, including a top score of 35.625 in the vault. Like Wittl, Forest Lake’s Jessica Dhaene finished first in two events (vault and bars), but placed second behind Wittl in the all-around with a score of 36.075. Lillyan Pan of Stillwater was third in the all-around with a score of 34.425.
“Everyone has been really working both to increase their score potential with new skills and combinations and also to try to make sure that the skills they do are as clean as possible,” Ponies coach Traci Swenson said. “It’s fun to see so many of the girls make improvements each week as we go throughout the season.”
Wittl produced her highest score in the floor at 9.3 and also won the beam with a score of 9.125. She finished second overall behind Dhaene in the vault (9.275) and bars (9.1).
n Also on Thursday, the Stillwater JV team defeated the Rangers 123.05-117.75. The Ponies posted the top five scores in the bars with Natalie Jantschek, Sami Matschi, Maddie Steffl, Alex Holmberg and Rachel Murphy and also swept the top four spots in the floor with Annie Seiler, Steffl, Holmberg and Thalia Anderson. Stillwater’s Hannah Haslach tied for first in vault with a score of 8.25.
