Counties join transport JPA
Four counties join an innovative joint powers agreement with Washington, Ramsey and Dakota counties that shares the costs of transporting persons in detention for criminal offenses after the County Board of Commissioners approved the new agreement Tuesday.
Mille Lacs, Sherburne, Olmstead and Scott counties asked to join the inmate transport agreement after the original 2011 pact to share costs of transporting detainees reduced transportation costs for Washington, Ramsey and Dakota counties.
The new agreement consolidates detainee transportation between the seven counties by streamlining the transport of detainees going to the same locations and reduces the time and miles driven by each county leading to lower transportation costs.
WCSO officials said all the county’s transportation costs are included in the county jail’s budget.
Funds used for conference
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office will use $6,000 raised by the office’s Explorer Post for expenses associated with the Explorers National Conference after the County Board of Commissioners approved the plan Tuesday.
The WCSO Explorers Post raises money through fundraising and accepts donations to pay for attending the national conference held every two years and training purposes.
The fund covers conference, lodging and transportation costs.
